The next morning I woke up with a beam of sunlight hitting my scaled face. At first it felt so warm and inviting that I just laid there soaking it up. I shifted a bit and then I felt damp. Morning dew from the cold night air coated my whole body. I slowly got to my four feet and shook myself, tossing the dew off me. I split my maw wide in a large yawn and looked around, seeing that Claw was already gone.
"I wonder where he took off to?" I asked myself.
I just stretched out my whole body, extending my wings out and flapping them a little bit to get the blood out into them. Once I was all set,
Claw and I wandered down into the large area to locate where the hunting party was being assembled. The amount of ingenuity of these dragons was astonishing. The boxes weren't all just shoved haphazardly into corners; they were stacked neatly with labels facing outward. I paused at one crate and examined the label.
"Residential section 2, chamber 16. Jaden Kingston." I read aloud, running a clawed figure along the text, "Contents, 80 pounds of dried meat, 20 pounds of packaged greens, 3 books and 20 candles."
Claw came back and saw me looking at the crate and said,
"Thissss clan hassss a sssshipping sssysssstem in it to move goodssss an
Morning came a lot faster than I thought. The sounds of birds chirping woke me up, as did the sound of my tent being unzipped. I looked out from the safety of my sleeping bag and saw Claw's muzzled face looking back at me.
"Morning Farm," he said with a smile that showed off his very white and sharp looking teeth, "Time to wake up, pack up and start your real vacation."
I let out a groan. I didn't really want to go through with his plan for my vacation. Running around in the woods seemed like something I'd both not enjoy and be lots more work. I just huffed a bit and climbed out of the sleeping bag and the tent as he backed up a bit, sti
That first half of the semester was fun. That first day was something, I walking into work and Debbi thought I was a different dragon and tried to shoo me out from behind the desk. I was able to explain to her that I was me and after a little evidence proving my claims, personal info and all that goes a long way. She asked me if she could expect any more alterations to my body.
"I hope not. I'm tired of it myself," I told her, finally relaxing after a long and tense interrogation session.
Once I was proven to be me, she showed me off to the other employees to make sure they all knew of my new looks so there wouldn't be any confusion. It d
I rolled over under my covers on the 20th of January, one day before my classes and work started up again, my last day of winter break.
"Oooh." I groaned, "I don't wanna get up."
I poked my snout out from under the covers to see that my clock's digital display read 9:29 A.M and sunlight beaming in through my small window making the whole room nice and bright with the morning glow. I just used one claw to rub the sleep from my eyes.
"Great," I muttered to myself, "Past breakfast and too far away from lunch. Man, I hate getting up so late or not late enough. Always just enough time to do something, but I have to rush."
I crawled out fr
I stood up and stretched out in the front pasture, I felt wet all over. I looked at myself and I was covered in morning dew.
"Great, I'm cold and wet." I muttered.
I shook myself and flapped my wings once, then once I was reasonably dry, started my very short walk to the house. I was just over the fence when I felt a very small series of light movements on my left foreleg. I turned my head to look at what was causing it and my eyes widened in horror.
"SPIDER!" I roared.
I rolled back onto my haunches and started smacking myself with my other paw trying to kill the huge spider. It was one of those big, hairy wolf spiders that must have be
"Reaction time," I said as I estimated the amount of time since he called and I heard the sirens, "About 30 minutes. That's about par for Macoupin county police."
I gathered up a few more of the squeakers till the sound of sirens got too close for comfort. I don't think they'd be happy to see a huge battle dragon and my IDs didn't match up with me anymore. I put the bucket near the kitchen door and went to the front pasture. It was the largest amount of open space and I didn't know how strong the wind gusts from my takeoff were going to be. Once I just walked over the fence, I spread my wings, jumped into the air and gave them a mighty flap.
"What was that?" asked Pez, he looked worried.
"I don't know." I replied, "but I think I'll check it out."
I went to my bedroom and got my revolver from under my bed, quickly loading it with one of my already loaded speed loaders that I keep for emergencies.
"You don't think you're really gonna need that do you?" he asked, following me as I walked up the stairs.
"I don't know, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious." I replied just as I got to the kitchen door.
I looked out the window to see the long muzzled face of another dragon. He looked terrified, like something was after him. His head kept whipping around like he thought at any moment
Once again, I found myself up late at night talking to people online. I never really chatted much online before, but with it being the dead of winter and on winter break nothing was going on. It was now 2009. New Years Day was just another day for me really. I stayed up late, watched the ball drop in New York and all that jazz. I even stayed up to midnight myself talking with my friends, ringing in the New Year with each one as we were all scattered across the globe. It had been a while since I got to talk to Scales and Jake. It was nice to hear from them again.
'Howdy Scales.' I typed moments after I saw his status change from offline to
Ah, Christmas Eve. It's that time of year that little kids look forward to with glee and parents' bank accounts dread. White snow on the ground, different color lights hung up all over the house with holiday decorations pinned on the walls. Only one thing was missing, the Christmas tree.
"You ready Eth?" Dad asked me as he walked into my computer room.
"Yeah, let me just save my work." I replied, quickly saving a story I had been writing.
"Don't take too long," he said to me, urging me along with just his tone, "Ma and I got the trailer all hooked up, waiting on you."
"Be right there." I told him as I got out of my chair and pushed t
